Manufacturing in China for UK businesses

Colin Moore has worked directly with Chinese manufacturers since 1999. He established Sauce Asia Limited in 2014. We work with engineering companies, manufacturers, distributors and retailers across a wide range of product categories — from precision machined components and fabricated metal assemblies through to complete consumer products, retail displays and industrial equipment.

Most projects start from engineering drawings, CAD files, physical samples or a product specification. Where a client has a concept rather than a finished drawing, we can help develop the specification before approaching manufacturers.

We can assess most clearly specified manufactured products. If you have a drawing, sample or product concept, contact us and we will advise whether it is suitable for China manufacture and what the process would involve.

Product categories we work with

The following categories represent the types of products and components we regularly source. This is not an exhaustive list — if your product is not listed, contact us to discuss.

CNC Machined Components

Turned and milled parts from engineering drawings. Required tolerances are assessed against the customer's drawing and the selected manufacturer's verified capability. Steel, aluminium, brass, copper and engineering plastics.

Fabricated & Welded Metal Assemblies

Structural frames, brackets, enclosures and welded assemblies. MIG, TIG and spot welding. Powder coat, zinc plate and paint finishes.

Sheet Metal, Cabinets & Enclosures

Laser cutting, punching, bending and forming. Mild steel, stainless and aluminium. Electrical enclosures, cabinets and bespoke sheet metal parts.

Castings, Forgings & Stamped Parts

Die casting, investment casting, sand casting and aluminium forgings. Progressive die stamping and deep drawing for high-volume runs.

PCB, PCBA & Electromechanical Assemblies

Bare PCBs, assembled PCBAs and complete electromechanical assemblies. Testing and certification support.

Conveyor Rollers & Industrial Components

Conveyor rollers, idlers, frames and industrial hardware. Machined to drawing. Material certificates can be requested and reviewed where required and available for the agreed product and material.

Retail Displays, POS & Shop Fittings

Point-of-sale displays, branded retail fixtures, gondola shelving and bespoke shop fittings. Prototypes through to container volumes.

Shelving, Racking & Storage Equipment

Pallet racking, shelving systems, storage solutions and warehouse equipment. Powder-coated steel and stainless options.

Agricultural, Building & Groundworks Hardware

Ground anchors, fixings, agricultural hardware, building products and groundworks equipment. Galvanised, hot-dip and powder-coat finishes.

Furniture, Cabinetry & Commercial Interiors

Commercial furniture, cabinetry, hospitality fit-out components and bespoke interior products. Solid wood, MDF, metal and mixed-material construction.

Bespoke Complete Products & Assemblies

Multi-component products combining machined, fabricated, moulded and bought-in parts. Assembled, tested and packed to your specification.

How projects start

Most projects begin in one of the following ways. You do not need a finished engineering drawing to start a conversation with us.

  • Engineering drawings or CAD files

The most common starting point. We work from 2D drawings, 3D CAD files or DXF files.

  • Physical samples or existing products

You provide a sample or existing product and we identify manufacturers capable of replicating or improving it.

  • Written specification

A detailed specification covering materials, dimensions, performance requirements and finish.

  • Product concept

An early-stage concept or brief. We can help develop the specification before approaching manufacturers.

Our process — from drawings to delivery

We manage every stage of the process so you have a single point of contact from initial enquiry through to goods arriving at your UK warehouse.

01

Requirements

We review your drawings, CAD files, samples or product concept. We establish materials, tolerances, quantities and quality expectations before approaching any manufacturer.

02

Factory Selection

We identify manufacturers from our vetted network with the right processes for your product. We do not rely solely on Alibaba or online supplier listings. Factories are assessed against your specific requirements.

03

Quotations

We obtain competitive quotations and review them with you. We highlight any technical concerns or risks before you commit to tooling or production.

04

Sampling

Where tooling or first-off samples are required, we manage the sampling process and review samples against your drawings before approving production.

05

Production

We monitor production progress and maintain communication with the factory throughout the manufacturing run.

06

Inspection

Our China-based QC team inspects goods before shipment. Dimensional checks, visual inspection, functional testing and photographic reports.

07

Consolidation & Shipping

Sea freight, air freight or express courier. We consolidate multiple product lines where required and handle all export documentation.

08

Customs Clearance & UK Delivery

We support customs clearance and can arrange delivery directly into your UK warehouse or distribution centre.

Quality control arranged for each project

Sauce Asia can arrange appropriate in-process or pre-shipment inspections according to the product, risk and agreed inspection scope. We do not rely on factory self-certification.

  • Drawing and specification checks before production begins
  • Material verification and certification review
  • Dimensional inspection against your drawings
  • Visual inspection for surface finish, welds and defects
  • Functional testing where applicable
  • Packaging and labelling checks
  • Pre-shipment inspection report with photographs

Shipping from China to the UK

We coordinate the full shipping process from the factory gate to your UK warehouse. You do not need to manage freight forwarders, customs agents or hauliers separately.

  • Sea freight — FCL (full container) and LCL (groupage)
  • Air freight for time-sensitive shipments
  • Express courier for samples and small consignments
  • Consolidation of multiple product lines into one shipment
  • Export documentation and packing lists

Frequently asked questions

What types of products can Sauce Asia source from China?

We can assess most clearly specified manufactured products — from precision machined components and fabricated metal assemblies through to complete consumer products, retail displays and industrial equipment. If you have a drawing, specification, sample or product concept, we can advise whether it is suitable for China manufacture.

Can you manufacture products from engineering drawings?

Yes. The majority of our work starts from customer drawings or CAD files. We identify manufacturers capable of meeting your tolerances, materials and finish requirements, obtain quotations and manage production through to delivery.

Is there a minimum order quantity?

Minimum order quantities depend on the product, manufacturing process, tooling requirements and selected factory. Sauce Asia will advise what is commercially realistic for each enquiry.

How do you verify Chinese suppliers?

We identify manufacturers from our established network built through direct relationships and factory visits. We assess factories against your specific process requirements before recommending them. We do not rely solely on Alibaba or online supplier listings. Our established factory relationships and on-the-ground searches allow us to assess manufacturers beyond the most obvious online options.

Do you carry out quality inspections in China?

Yes. Sauce Asia can arrange appropriate in-process or pre-shipment inspections according to the product, risk and agreed inspection scope. This can include dimensional checks against your drawings, visual inspection for surface finish and defects, and functional testing where required. We provide written inspection reports with photographs.

How long does it take to source and deliver products from China?

Production and shipping times depend on the product, factory capacity, order quantity, season, route and current freight conditions. Sauce Asia provides project-specific estimates before an order or shipment is agreed.

Can you handle shipping and customs clearance?

Yes. We coordinate sea freight, air freight and express courier. We handle export documentation and support customs clearance into the UK. We can deliver directly to your warehouse or distribution centre.

Who does Sauce Asia work with?

We primarily work with UK businesses — engineering companies, manufacturers, distributors and retailers — that need reliable manufacturing and sourcing support in China. Projects range from bespoke engineered components through to large-volume container shipments.
